Mozilla Links ha pubblicato una interessante intervista a Michael Kaply che oltre ad essere l’autore di Operator (l’estensione per Firefox che consente di visualizzare ed associare azioni ai Microformats) è anche il responsabile del supporto ai Microformats per la nuova versione del browser open source più diffuso. Oltre ad una panoramica sullo stato attuale dei Microformats e sul loro futuro, vengono dette un paio di cose piuttosto interessanti…
In primo luogo si ritorna a parlare di del nuovo Firefox come “agente informativo” (information broker), cioè come un oggetto che consente di estrarre, manipolare e combinare le informazioni pubblicate sul web. Come diceva Mark Pilgrim:
Or do you just use your browser to browse? That’s so 20th century.
L’altra cosa interessante è che a detta di Kaply un grosso problema per i Microformats è rapprentato dall’interfaccia utente:
Microformat UI is a very difficult subject. Microformats could be indicated by UI in the page, but people are averse to having the web browser modify web pages. The other problem is that microformats are not very common yet, so if we put UI in the web browser, it needs to be “transient UI” – that is UI that comes and goes without interfering with the user experience, similar to how the feed button works today. We have yet to find a good solution for “transient UI.”
